Center for Coastal Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi

ADMINISTERED BY THE CENTER FOR COASTAL STUDIES

> Caribbean Connection
For over two decades, students from TAMU-CC have studied coral reefs of the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea. Field excursions have given students a firsthand opportunity to study coral reefs, as well as experience the culture of Latin America. Because such activities are usually too expensive for students to afford, the Center for Coastal Studies seeks personal and corporate sponsors to underwrite student field trip fees. This organization of contributors was established in 1997 and has become known as the Caribbean Connection.

> Millicent Quammen Memorial Scholarship
The Millicent Quammen Memorial Scholarship Fund is an endowed fund established in honor of Millicent L. Quammen by her family and friends. The scholarship is established for graduate or undergraduate marine, coastal and environmental science students. Its purpose is to assist students in attending a scientific meeting, a field trip, or to purchase research equipment.

> Center for Coastal Studies Endowment
The endowment was established in 2001 with assets donated by the Goad family. Thomas L. Goad is the former TAMU-CC President for Development and Executive Director of Alumni. It is the desire of the CCS to continue support of the CCS endowment through future contributions.

> David May Marine Memorial Scholarship
The David May Marine Memorial Scholarship was established in 1984 and is overseen by the Center for Coastal Studies. It was created to assist students financially with traveling expenses pertaining to coral reef research that will help prevent destruction or degradation of reef systems.

> Hans and Patricia Suter Endowment
The "Suter" name is synonymous with environmental advocacy and protection of the Texas Coastal Bend. It is therefore fitting that the Center for Coastal Studies has an endowed scholarship honoring the life and works of Dr. Hans Suter and his wife Patricia. Dr. Suter was a scientist, teacher, environmental activist, communicator and leader. His book, A Voice of Reason, Environmental Insights, was a compilation of his articles for the Corpus Christi Caller-Times published over a 20-year period. Pat Suter, professor, scientist, environmental activist and community leader has carried on Dr. Suter's successful role in environmental advocacy. Scholarships from the Endowment, focused on coastal zone environmental studies, began in 2002.
