Center for Coastal Studies at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi

April Anderson > April Anderson
Graduate Student

April Anderson is a graduate student of Biology. For her thesis she expects to increase the understanding of the effects of ocean acidification on early life stages of marine organisms that produce calcium skeletons. Her thesis subject is the effect of pH on early development of the green sea urchin, Lytechinus variegatus. She is conducting this research under joint supervision of Dr Joe. Fox and Dr. Marion Nipper. She also works as a research assistant for Dr. Paul Montagna at the Harte Research Institute for Gulf of Mexico Studies.
Rosaleen Baluyot > Rosaleen Baluyot
Graduate Student

Rosaleen Baluyot is a graduate student of Biology, focusing on avian and wetland ecology. Her research focus is on the impact of climate change and habitat fragmentation on neotropical migrant and secretive marsh birds on four peninsulas along the Coastal Bend. Rosaleen has a NOAA Environmental Cooperative Science Center Program graduate fellowship; her thesis is a component of a larger project being conducted by CCS's Dr. Elizabeth Smith, assessing historic land use/land cover patterns in the Mission-Aransas watershed.

Misti Grohman > Misti Grohman
Graduate Student

Misti Grohman is a graduate student of Environmental Science. For her thesis she expects to elucidate some aspects of the effects of contaminants on immune ability of Cnidarians, as a step towards the understanding of how anthropogenic contaminants may be enhancing the occurrence of disease in corals. She is also working as a research assistant in the Marine Ecotoxicology Laboratory at the Center for Coastal Studies under Dr. Marion Nipper. In that capacity she gives assistance on a broad variety of laboratory activities for the project "Field Validation of General Methodology for Evaluating Narcosis Toxicity Using Passive Samplers and Sediment Profile Imaging."
